It’s safe to say that the final season of The Boys has not been holding back. The Prime Video series has had a lot of competition in the superhero TV field over the course of the past few months, with the likes of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, Invincible season 4, and even the recent Special Presentation The Punisher: One Last Kill to contend with, and it has still managed to remain one of the most talked-about programs of the year thus far.

It’s not surprising given how popular the show is. It is, after all, based on Garth Ennis’ critically-acclaimed comic book series of the same name, and it goes without saying that Eric Kripke has done a phenomenal job in bringing these larger-than-life personalities to the small screen over the course of the show’s five-season run. However, if you’ve been watching season 5 across the weeks, you’ll probably be a little upset to hear what we’re about tot ell you in regards to the next episode.

The Boys season 5 episode 8 is the final episode of the show ever

The Boys season 5 episode 8, titled “Blood and Bone”, will premiere on Prime Video on Wednesday, May 20, at 3:00 a.m. ET, 12:00 a.m. PT, 1:00 a.m. CT, and 2:00 a.m. MT. If you’ve been watching each episode of the season as and when they premiere, then that won’t be a surprise to you. What might surprise you if you haven’t been keeping up with the wider news about the show, however, is that it will be the final episode of the series forever.

Yes, unfortunately “Blood and Bone” will bring the journey of The Seven and The Boys to a close for good, ending what has been an absolutely thrilling, shocking, and downright unhinged run for everyone involved. We’ve come a long way from when the show first premiered back in 2019 and that’s not to say that the first season wasn’t outrageous in its own right, but The Boys has grown in so many other ways than just size and scale, evolving over time to appeal to a wider variety of audiences while also never straying too far away from the core concepts that make it so compelling to its devoted fanbase.

There is understandably a lot of concern over how the show is going to end. The Boys isn’t exactly known for striving to make its characters happy, so any kind of “happy ending” would realisitically be anything but. Even those who have read the source material and know a semblance of what’s coming still can’t fully be prepared for the chaos that will undoubtedly unfold from the coming episodes – and what it could mean for the Vought Cinematic Universe.

Yes, the VCU is growing, and that is undoubtedly one of the silver linings about the main show’s impending conclusion: There will be more to come from the franchise after that. Although the first live-action spinoff series Gen V was officially cancelled by the Prime Video streaming service after just two seasons, the studio’s plans for the overall Boys saga are still very much in focus. And that means that fans will still have plenty of outlandish, ludicrous superhero action to look forward to in the future – starting with Vought Rising next year.

Taking all of that into account, it’s both safe and fair to say that The Boys‘ season 5 finale will mark the end of an era for Prime Video, the VCU franchise, and the superhero TV genre. The show has never shied away from the violent nature of the story that it’s telling and that unapologetic nature helped it stand out in a crowded landscape of comic book and superhero TV shows. We have absolutely no doubt that the creative team will pull it off again one more time in the series finale.

The only question is: Who will make it out of the final episode of The Boys alive? The cast have made it clear that some major deaths will take place in the final season, so will Homelander, Billy Butcher, Mother’s Milk, Starlight or any of the other characters die in the series finale? Believe all of us when we say that anything can quite literally happen on this show. All we have to do at this point is wait and see
