The Golden State Warriors season has not gone to plan and has continued to get worse as the year has progressed. The team has been without its best player, superstar point guard Steph Curry, since late January, and Golden State is currently on a three‑game losing streak while sitting in tenth place in the Western Conference.

Jimmy Butler is also out for the entire season as he recovers from a torn ACL. While there is no real fear of Golden State falling out of the play‑in tournament, making a deep playoff run even with Curry seems unrealistic.

Curry is one of the greatest players the league has ever seen, with the all‑time 3‑point record, two MVPs, four championships, 12 All‑Star appearances and 11 All‑NBA selections, which shows speaks volumes about where the team is right now.

Curry is dealing with a right knee injury that has forced him to miss 21 straight games, during which the Warriors have gone 6‑15. While he has continued to receive treatment, he is still working toward resuming all on‑court activities in hopes of returning this season. On Monday, however, the Warriors provided a disappointing update on his status.

This past Saturday, head coach Steve Kerr shared that Curry was expected to participate in a five‑on‑five scrimmage on Sunday in Atlanta during the team’s off day following a loss to the Hawks.

On Monday, the Warriors announced that Curry was not cleared for the scrimmage and did not participate. Instead, he completed additional on‑court work and rehab with Rick Celebrini. There was no setback to his recovery, but he was not able to advance to the next stage of the process (h/t Anthony Slater of ESPN).

While it is reassuring that Curry is not regressing, the fact that he is not progressing is concerning with the play‑in tournament less than a month away. Getting Curry back would at least give Warriors fans some hope. The 38‑year‑old has continued to thrive this season, showcasing his elite longevity.

Over 39 games, Curry has averaged 27.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists while shooting 46.8% from the field and 39.1% from beyond the arc. Golden State knows its season hinges on whether Curry can return in time to give the team any chance of making noise in April.
