Last year, to close out its Summer Game Fest showcase, Xbox revealed its ‘one more thing’ to be Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, with a cinematic trailer teasing a bit of the surreal and mind-bending campaign that would arrive in November 2025. It was a reveal that fell a little flat with the audience, because instead of using that closing slot to reveal an unexpected project, we got a look at perhaps the most ‘expected’ title of the year. Now, with only weeks to go before the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, the cover art for what is believed to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has been teased by a reliable leaker, and while it could be signaling a repeat of last year, more importantly, it seems to confirm what a different leaker got shut down for revealing.
Revealed by reliable leaker Billbil-kun in response to what they’re seemingly calling a “fake leak,” a blurred version of the cover art for the next Call of Duty game shows the game’s title and three soldiers on the cover, but it’s what’s above the image that’s worth paying more attention to.
Billbil-kun writes, “here’s a ‘not fake’ cover for one of Activision’s games: 사,” before adding, “People should also read the image descriptions for better understanding.” Looking at the images description, it simply reads, “Image blurred intentionally for legal reasons.“
Both the symbol, which, according to machine translation, is the Korean symbol for ‘four,’ and the comment in the description appear to be nods towards former Call of Duty leaker Ghost Of Hope, who Activision took legal action against earlier this year to stop them from leaking confidential information about its games.
Before that, Ghost of Hope leaked that this year’s Call of Duty would be called Modern Warfare 4, and that its campaign setting would feature both South and North Korea. Now, for Billbil-kun to add that symbol into their post, and allude to the ‘legal reasons’ preventing them from revealing the whole photo seem to strongly suggest that Ghost Of Hope was correct.
Of course, we can’t know for sure, but prior to his shutdown, Ghost Of Hope had a strong track record with their leaks, and Billbil-kun’s track record is another that speaks for itself on how reliable a source they are. So take all of this with a grain of salt, but also while keeping the source in mind.
Now, it seems the next question is when we’ll finally get a proper reveal for this supposed Modern Warfare 4. As previously mentioned, it could appear in two weeks during the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase, where it probably won’t fall as flat as Black Ops 7 did last year.
After Black Ops 7 was another down year for the series, Infinity Ward and Activision have made public commitments to improve on the standard that the last few years have set, and tangible changes like the series finally leaving last-gen consoles behind and its removal from Xbox Game Pass seem to have instilled some sense that this year will be different. So long as it doesn’t take the last spot in the show, this year’s reveal, if it is at the upcoming showcase, could help the franchise bounce back.
