Canelo Alvarez has hit back at Jake Paul after the YouTuber-turned-boxer claimed the Mexican star demanded $200 million for a potential fight.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer recently stoked the flames again by insisting he had the money ready and calling it the biggest bout boxing could make, keeping Alvarez’s name in the headlines.

But the 35-year-old Mexican has now responded, suggesting Paul’s comments are more about staying relevant than organising a genuine fight.

Speaking on the Mr. Verzace Podcast, Canelo said: “They need to talk about me to sell tickets and pay-per-view. There are other fights there and they always talk about Canelo.”

The former four-weight champion also added: “That’s because they don’t sell tickets, they don’t sell pay-per-views, they need to mention my name.

“I don’t think Jake Paul sells so many tickets for the fights he has in his company, and that’s why he brings up that situation, about the $200 million.”

Canelo Alvarez already has Christian Mbilli fight scheduled

Alvarez’s immediate focus is elsewhere. He is set to face Christian Mbilli on 12 September in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the WBC super-middleweight title on the line.

The bout marks Canelo’s first appearance since his defeat to Terence Crawford last year, and Mbilli’s unbeaten record presents a real challenge.

With that fight already locked in, a clash with Paul feels distant. For now, Canelo’s attention remains firmly on his return to championship action.
