The Chicago Cubs are in the middle of a brutal losing streak at the moment. After their very strong start to the season, the 10-game losing streak is a huge bummer for the Cubs.

They’ve dropped to 29-26, and with all of the injuries to the pitching staff, it’s fair to have some major concerns about this team going forward. Add in the struggling offense, and alarm bells are ringing for the Cubs right now.

Amid such a brutal stretch, the Cubs, according to USA Today MLB insider Bob Nightengale, are in agreement with a 3.94 ERA left-handed reliever who was recently released by the Atlanta Braves in veteran Aaron Bummer.

Cubs to sign Aaron Bummer to contract amid 10-game losing skid

“The Chicago Cubs sign veteran reliever Aaron Bummer to a minor league contract after being recently released by Atlanta,” Nightengale reports.

Bummer, the 32-year-old lefty, was released by the Braves earlier this season following a brutal outing against the Miami Marlins, where he allowed six runs in just one inning of work in a 12-0 loss.

This season, across 19 outings, Bummer posted a 7.63 ERA and -0.8 bWAR for the Braves with 13 strikeouts to go with six homers and 10 walks allowed in 15.1 innings pitched.

Bummer has been a much better reliever for the majority of his career. With a 3.80 ERA before the disastrous performance this season for the Braves, there is reason to believe he could be a nice pickup for the Cubs.

But, with Bummer beginning his Cubs stint in the minor leagues, this addition won’t help the Cubs get out of their 10-game losing streak.

Things are falling apart for the Cubs, and amid such a bummer of a stretch, the Cubs are signing Aaron Bummer to help out the bullpen this season.
