TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — Beginning May 18, NewsChannel 8 will evolve into Tulsa’s News Pulse, a bold new approach to local journalism with a reporter-driven format, hyperlocal storytelling, live reporting, and community connection.
Tulsa’s News Pulse is built on a simple idea; be where the stories are. By placing more reporters in communities across Tulsa and surrounding areas, the station is expanding coverage of the people, neighborhoods, businesses, and issues that shape daily life in Oklahoma.
“Tulsa’s News Pulse is about being closer to the community than ever before,” said Mark Martin, VP and General Manager of KTUL and FOX23. “We’re reimagining local news to give viewers more of what they want—more local stories, more relevance, and a deeper connection to our community.”
As part of the initiative, Sinclair has established an expanded content center at KOKI, featuring significant upgrades to weather technology, studio production, and master control. The investment allows both stations to deliver more enterprise reporting, more live field coverage, and stronger local and regional journalism across multiple platforms.
Viewers can expect more local stories from across the city and surrounding communities, including areas that have historically received less consistent coverage. The new format emphasizes community-focused journalism, stronger engagement with viewers, and expanded access to content wherever audiences consume news.
This transformation reflects Sinclair’s continued commitment to innovation in local news and its focus on building a modern newsroom model that delivers high-quality journalism across all platforms.
Tulsa’s News Pulse officially launches Monday, May 18 at 5 p.m.
