A man was killed in a head-on crash in Stockton on Saturday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP said a Tesla Model X was heading westbound on Highway 4 around 12:17 p.m. when the crash took place. The driver was a 51-year-old man from Stockton and there were two juvenile passengers inside the vehicle. A Kia sedan driven by a 38-year-old Stockton man was headed eastbound at the same time, CHP said. The Kia driver drove into the westbound lane, causing the Tesla driver to veer to the left to avoid the Kia; but the Kia driver swerved back to to the right and the two vehicles collided. The Kia went airborne after the crash and fell in a drainage ditch about 20 feet south of the highway, according to CHP. The driver was unconscious and needed to be removed from the vehicle. He was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 1:21 p.m., officials said. The Tesla driver and passengers all sustained moderate injuries but refused medical treatment. CHP said they were taken away from the scene by family members.
