I’m taking the A’s up to -155 for this matchup; I make them closer to -167. We’ve seen Jeffrey Springs get back to being a league-average starter this season: 3.8 xFIP, 3.4 xERA, and a SIERA of 4.00. So, he is right around the Major League average at worst, if not a little bit above.
The pitch modeling metrics confirm it: 103 Stuff+, and a 15% K-BB rate. Both of those are above the Major League average.
He is giving up a few homers, and the wind is blowing out very aggressively in Sacramento today toward left field, which hurts Springs probably more than it hurts Andre Pallante.
We know the one thing with Pallante is that he keeps the baseball on the ground, but this A’s offense is significantly better than the Cardinals’ offense.
