Rousey vs. Carano: Nate Diaz full open workout media scrum
Nate Diaz talks to MMA Junkie and other reporters about Saturday’s Mike Perry fight on Netflix and more during Wednesday’s open workout.
Nate Diaz put his signature touch on Wednesday workouts for the MMA card featuring Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano.
He didn’t even break a sweat during his session outside at Venice Beach, California, but he capped it in Nate Diaz style. Which is to say he lit what appeared to be a marijuana joint and took a couple of puffs before an interview with Netflix host Sibley Scoles.
“I was hoping that was going to happen,’’ Scoles said with bemusement.
Moments later, Diaz pulled out what appeared to be a fresh joint and, without explanation, lit that one up.
Marijuana is legal in California, but it may not be customary for an MMA fighter to smoke it in public while preparing to fight Mike Perry. The bout between Diaz and Perry will be one of three “headliners” of an 11-fight MMA card to be streamed by Netflix.
Diaz’s appearance at open workouts also included a warm greeting between him and Michael Irvin, the retired NFL receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer. But the real star is Rousey, who will fight Carano in the Saturday, May 16 main event at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
Of Rousey, Diaz said, “When she got on scene, she came and trained with us and she was hella cool. Trained out hard and she just did it like how we do it over here.
“I got a lot of love for Gina too, because I know her since way back, too. So it’s going to be a great fight and I’m grateful to be a part of the show. ‘’
