The No. 1 recruit in college basketball will officially make his commitment decision on Tuesday evening.
According to Matt Norlander of CBS Sports, 5-star forward Tyran Stokes will announce his commitment on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. ET during an episode of Inside the NBA on ESPN. Stokes, who is ranked as the No. 1 overall player in the nation in 247Sports’ composite, is deciding between Kentucky and Kansas.
Oregon was also previously in the running to land Stokes, but Norlander reported that he was told the Ducks are no longer involved in his recruitment, leaving the Jayhawks and Wildcats to anxiously wait for his decision on Tuesday.
It should be noted that Stokes signed an NIL deal with Nike ahead of his senior season. Kentucky is a Nike school, while Kansas wears Adidas apparel.
The Jayhawks already boast a strong recruiting class headlined by 5-star point guard Taylen Kinney. 247Sports currently ranks Kansas’ 2026 recruiting class sixth in the nation. Meanwhile, the Wildcats’ recruiting class consists of 4-star point guard Mason Williams and transfers Alex Wilkins and Zoom Diallo, so it’s clear that Kentucky is in desperate need of a big splash.
Landing Stokes would be a dream for either school, as he’s already expected to be the favorite for the No. 1 pick in the 2027 NBA draft. 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein described him as “the most talented prospect in the national class and a unique match-up for opposing defenders.”
Norlander noted that Stokes’ decision “remains a mystery to almost everyone,” so fans will be excited to tune in and watch him finally make his college commitment on Tuesday evening.
