A Chalmette refinery caught on fire and exploded Friday afternoon, officials say.

Chalmette Refining posted on Facebook that the explosion occurred at around 12:51 p.m. Everyone working in the area is safe and accounted for, and fire and police emergency responders are on the scene.

The eastbound lanes of West St. Bernard Highway from Jackson Boulevard to Palmisano Boulevard were temporarily closed to traffic, according to a post from the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office.

It is unknown at this time what caused the explosion.
