The Orioles get another shot at the Yankees this week after being swept in a four-game series in the Bronx.

The minus-29 run differential highlighted the disparity between the teams.

Samuel Basallo is the designated hitter in a left-on-left matchup. A hot bat stays in the lineup.

Coby Mayo is on the bench. Weston Wilson starts at third base and Blaze Alexander at second.

Brandon Young makes his fifth start. He allowed three runs in the first inning against the Marlins in his most recent outing and followed with five scoreless.

Young hasn’t faced the Yankees.

Left-handed reliever Josh Walker is on the taxi squad today.

“Precaution, just in case,” manager Craig Albernaz said without elaborating.

Closer Ryan Helsley said his right elbow feels much better and he hopes to start throwing soon, with the expectation that he’ll need a rehab assignment. He hasn’t pitched since April 28.

Left-hander Trevor Rogers is eligible today to be reinstated from the 15-day injured list but will have to wait. The Orioles haven’t confirmed their starters for the next two games of the series.

Jackson Holliday and Heston Kjerstad are joining Triple-A Norfolk Tuesday to continue their injury rehab assignments.

Taylor Ward’s .426 on-base percentage is the sixth highest by an Orioles player through his first 40 games with the team in a minimum 100 plate appearances, per STATS.

Ward is the only Oriole to walk 40 times in his first 40 games with the team:

Taylor Ward 40 (2026)
Albert Belle 39 (1999)
Ken Singleton 37 (1975)
Glenn Gulliver 32 (1982)
Norm Siebern 32 (1964)

Reliever Rico Garcia earned his third save yesterday and has allowed only one run and one hit in 18 innings. He brings a 0.50 ERA and 0.444 WHIP into the series, and opponents are batting .019 against him.

The Yankees won 16 of 19 before the Brewers swept them in a three-game weekend series. The Rays moved into first place, a game ahead of New York (26-15).

Ryan Weathers will try to make the Orioles 0-10 this season against left-handed starters. He’s registered a 3.03 ERA in seven starts, with 45 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings.

Weathers faced the Orioles in his last outing and allowed one earned run (three total) with three hits in five inning. He was scratched from his next start with a viral infection.

Pete Alonso is 2-for-4 with a home run against Weathers.

The Yankees’ 3.07 rotation ERA is the lowest in the American League.

The Yankees have a plus-73 run differential that’s second highest in the majors. They lead the majors with 91 runs scored and an .840 OPS with two outs.

In the four-game series in the Bronx, the Orioles went 4-for-27 (.148) with runners in scoring position and the Yankees went 18-for-38 (.474).

The Yankees have won the last nine games against the Orioles. Their longest streak is 19 in a row in 2019-20.

Aaron Judge owns a 26-game on-base streak against the Orioles. Per STATS, his 1.199 OPS versus the Orioles is the second highest in baseball against any opponent since 1901 in a minimum 500 plate appearances. Babe Ruth posted a 1.223 OPS against the Tigers. Ted Williams had a 1.196 OPS against the Browns/Orioles to rank third.

The Yankees are averaging 6.55 runs per game at home and 4.00 on the road, the largest difference in the majors this season. The margin would be the largest in franchise history with a better home number, per STATS.
