Paige has signed with WWE and is expected to return to the ring this weekend at WrestleMania 42, according to PWInsider.
PWInsider reports that Paige is expected to compete in Saturday’s Women’s Tag Team Championship Fatal Four-Way, replacing Nikki Bella, who has not been cleared to return from an ankle injury suffered several weeks ago on SmackDown. The report states that WWE secretly brought Paige to Las Vegas and that she was seen taking part in a run-through for the match earlier this week.
The return would be remarkable given that WWE ruled Paige medically disqualified from competing in January 2018, when she was just 25 years old. The decision came after a December 2017 injury during a tag team match at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. Paige had her back to Sasha Banks, who kicked both legs into Paige’s back from the turnbuckles. Paige went down and could not get her legs under her. She eventually got up and tried to grab Banks but immediately fell again and rolled onto her back. The referee called for the bell and a stretcher was brought to ringside. It was believed she had suffered a stinger that caused her to lose feeling in her extremities. Given her previous neck surgery, WWE pulled her from the ring and further testing led to the decision to remove her from competition entirely.
The injury came during a turbulent period for Paige that included neck surgery, two WWE Wellness Policy suspensions, the public leak of personal videos, and a tumultuous relationship with Alberto Del Rio. By late 2017, she had been cleared and was back at the WWE Performance Center preparing for a return. She was brought back on Raw as part of the Absolution faction with Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville before the injury ended her career just weeks later.
After being taken out of the ring, Paige served as SmackDown General Manager and was the subject of Fighting with My Family, a Dwayne Johnson-produced film released theatrically that followed a fictionalized version of her path to WWE. Florence Pugh portrayed Paige in the film.
When Paige’s WWE contract expired in June 2022, she signed with AEW and made a surprise debut in September of that year. No longer under WWE’s medical restrictions, Paige returned to the ring and won the AEW Women’s Championship from Hikaru Shida. She competed for AEW through March 2025.
Now 33, Paige returns to WWE under TKO ownership to compete on the biggest stage in wrestling, seven years after being told her in-ring career was over.
