Nick Sweigart, who won a feature race last Saturday, used inappropriate and derogatory language toward speedway personnel, race officials said.

PORT ROYAL, Pa. — The winner of a PA Sprint Series race at Port Royal Speedway over the weekend has been suspended for using “inappropriate language” and making “derogatory remarks” toward speedway personnel during a post-race interview, race officials announced Thursday.

Nick Sweigart, who won a track championship at Port Royal Speedway last year, has been suspended from competition in all divisions at the Juniata County venue for one year, speedway officials announced in conjunction with the PA Sprint Series.

Additionally, Sweigart will lose credit for last Saturday’s victory in the Penns Valley Meat Market 305 sprint car race, forfeiting all associated track points and prize money for the event, raceway officials said.

The penalty, as levied by Port Royal Speedway with the support of the PA Sprint Series, may be accompanied by additional sanctions from the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint competition, officials said.

According to Port Royal officials, Sweigart was interviewed in Victory Lane after last Saturday’s win. During his remarks, he used inappropriate language and directed several derogatory remarks toward speedway officials and personnel.

“Port Royal Speedway and the PA Sprint Series are committed to promoting an environment that is welcoming to the entire family, including fans of all ages, as well as partners and sponsors who share those same values,” officials said. “The language used in victory lane on Saturday was not in line with that standard.

“Port Royal Speedway and the PA Sprint Series remain committed to providing a professional, respectful, and family-friendly atmosphere for all who attend and participate in race day activities, both at the track and through broadcast partners.”
