Will today be the day Alexander Isak starts and finishes a match for Liverpool for the first time?

The Sweden striker, of course, missed a chunk of pre-season training before his acrimonious departure from Newcastle and has been injured for parts of this campaign.

But the British record £125m signing has yet to complete a full 90 minutes for Liverpool since joining last September,

I spoke to a couple of Reds fans outside Anfield about Isak, who has scored just three times for Liverpool.

“It hasn’t gone so well for him so far,” Mattias Astrom, who has travelled from Sweden for today’s game, told me.

“He needs confidence and he has to score. That’s why Liverpool bought him – to score goals. Maybe he can start fresh next season.”

Fredde Andersson said: “I was excited when Liverpool signed Isak. But he’s not the player he was at Newcastle last season. Now Hugo Ekitike is injured, maybe he will get more minutes.”
