Rosie O’Donnell is declaring that “men suck” after learning about the sexual assault allegations against Eric Swalwell, a politician she once supported and donated money to.

On Monday, Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California announced his resignation from Congress after several media outlets, including the San Francisco Chronicle and CNN, reported allegations that Swalwell had sexually assaulted a woman twice, including when she worked for him. CNN additionally reported that three other women alleged various kinds of sexual misconduct by Swalwell, including sending them unsolicited explicit messages and nude photos.

O’Donnell voiced her disappointment over the scandal in a Monday TikTok.

“I know that guy,” O’Donnell began her video. “Like, spoke to him on the phone a couple times, donated money to him, I believe. Talked about him in some public appearances years ago about how I believed in him, and his cute little family and two kids, and standing up to all those people when he, you know, berates them for their moralist behavior.”

She continued, “And then all this comes out about him, and it’s heartbreaking to me, you know?”

O’Donnell then revealed that she sent Swalwell a message amid the scandal, which read: “You know, Bill Clinton broke my heart, and now you did too.”

Swalwell is facing a string of accusations, including that he drugged and raped one woman and sexually assaulted one of his staffers. Two local criminal investigations have been launched in the days since. He has denied all the allegations, but has admitted to making “mistakes.”

Summarizing her feelings on the matter, O’Donnell remarked, “You know the conclusion I’ve come to? Men suck.”

The comedian went on to address the fact that she and Swalwell were politically aligned in several ways, including their opposition of President Donald Trump. O’Donnell has been locked in a feud with Trump that stretches back to before he was president and previously announced that she fled the United States for Ireland specifically because Trump was reelected.

After likening her feelings about Swalwell’s situation to that of Clinton’s — who was impeached in 1998 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice following the sexual harassment lawsuit addressing his relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky — O’Donnell argued men can’t control their “sexual urges,” and said the situation taught her not to believe in anyone.

“People have images and they sell themselves as one thing, but they’re not that thing,” O’Donnell complained. “They have complications like all humans do, right? They have addictions, they have impulses, they have frontal lobe disorder, they have narcissism, they have a spoiled privileged upbringing that warps their perspective.”

On Monday, Swalwell announced his resignation from Congress in a statement which read, “I am deeply sorry to my family, staff, and constituents for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past. I will fight the serious false allegation made against me. However, I must take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I did make.”
