Tage Thompson is struggling. That much is clear.

The Buffalo Sabres‘ leading goalscorer from the regular season has gone scoreless in seven consecutive playoff games, including Friday night’s loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
Even worse, he’s turning the puck over in some alarming positions — and one of those giveaways led directly to an Alexandre Carrier goal in the Game 2 loss Friday.
After the game, that led to a reporter asking Thompson if he was injured.
“I don’t think that’s any of your business,” Thompson replied.
On the one hand, fair enough.
On the other hand, though, it’s a sassy response that signals something negative either way.

Either Thompson is just so frustrated by how he’s playing that he can’t help but snap back a little at a question that he more easily could’ve deflected.
Or he’s actually hurt but doesn’t want to provide any more insight.
Either way, it’s a bit worrisome for the Sabres. To get past Montreal, and potentially make an even longer run, they’ll need Thompson to be a lot closer to his best than he is right now.
If he’s being held down by an injury, that’ll make it tough to reach his optimal performance level in time to help the Sabres keep this storybook season going.
