Severe storm potential for Louisville and parts of southern Indiana
Rounds of showers and storms are expected on Saturday with drier skies on tap for Sunday.
It was *** busy start to our Saturday. We did have *** warning issued and some heavy rainfall passing through the WLKY viewing area. I think during the daytime hours today we will certainly hold on to the risk of seeing some shower and thunderstorm activity, but I think it’s later as we head into our afternoon hours and evening hours and then into our Saturday night that we’ll look for better chances of seeing some of that shower and thunderstorm activity fire up. So bottom line, we are looking at the potential of perhaps some strong thunderstorm activity as we head later today and into tonight. I think our primary concern will be the potential of some gusty winds and also some hail. We can’t rule out an isolated spin up as well. So you can see as we head into your Saturday evening, we’re going to be watching for those storms to fire up and move through. We’ll continue to have that unsettled weather into the early overnight hours. Before this all moves out of the WLKY viewing area and in its wake we’re going to be talking about warm conditions on our Sunday and also dry conditions as well. Now if you’ve been following along with the forecast, we have seen an upgrade to *** slight risk category. So that’s level 2 out of the categories. The bottom line is we are going to be looking at the potential of some gusty winds and some hail and to the additional threat of perhaps an. Isolated spin up as well. So again, level 2 out of the 5 risk categories. The other thing we’re going to be watching, temperatures are going to be tricky for today depending on those locations that see more rain versus less rain. As of right now, it looks like some of our southern communities may not have as much wet weather, so your temperatures may be boosted *** bit versus farther to the north where your temperatures are going to be stuck into the 70s for today. OK, so as we take *** look at that 7 day forecast, temperatures basically in the lower 80s, it looks like for areas right along the river and points down to the south. Farther to the north you’ll likely be in the 70s. Then we’re in the upper 80s on Sunday. Most of us, I think, are staying dry on Sunday as well as on Monday. And then we’re looking for another chance of some showers and storms on Tuesday. That’ll knock that temperature back down closer to normal.
