Here’s one way we can tell San Antonio is a special city: several Spurs legends were drafted to the team and simply never left. What’s more, some of them still live here after retiring from the NBA and can often be spotted out and about. One of those players is Manu Ginóbili, the four-time NBA champ and one of only two Spurs to win Sixth Man of the Year.

Ginóbili stopped by Laika Cheesecake & Espresso on Broadway, a sweet treat staple of the Alamo Heights neighborhood. According to a Tuesday, May 5 Instagram post from the Ukrainian-owned local chain, the Spurs icon stopped in, took a photo with the barista on duty, and snapped a Polaroid.

Commenters were left in shambles, and many wondered whether the iconic guard ordered the special Spurs-themed cheesecake jar the chain whipped up for the playoffs.

A general manager told MySA via email, “He was very kind and mentioned it was his first time at Laika. After a quick rundown of our menu, he ordered a peppermint tea, and we gave him one of our Spurs cheesecake jars. He was meeting with some cyclists who pedaled from Gualeguaychú [a city in eastern Argentina] towards the World Cup.”

The general manager also shared some takeaways from the barista who served him, who said, “He was really nice! He came in, I asked if he’s been in before, and he said, ‘No.’ I gave him a quick rundown, he was interested in a drink, so we gave him his drink! And a free Spurs jar, and he was really sweet and said thank you with a wink. Also, when I asked for a photo, he was super nice and said yes! And he allowed us to take a Polaroid photo of him for our store!”

It’s not the first time the beloved player has been spotted in San Antonio recently, as he also stopped by one of the first-round playoff matchups between the Spurs and the Portland Trail Blazers at the Frost Bank Center. Ginóbili was once again in attendance at Monday night’s Game 1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, another Fiesta-themed home game.
