Keldon Johnson won the first individual award of his career in the NBA when he was named the 2026 Sixth Man of the Year. However, the San Antonio Spurs man is well aware that his job is not done, as he now attempts to play a similarly integral role in what may as well end up becoming a real title charge, the first in the era of Victor Wembanyama.

Regardless, Johnson seems to be intent on taking care of his friends as well, and had promised some of them that he will buy them ‘Rolex’ watches if he actually ended up winning the award, per a post on X by Michael C. Wright. And as it turns out, his friends ended up asking him to buy them cars instead, which Johnson obliged.
Johnson undoubtedly appears intent on taking care of the people around him, although there is plenty of work remaining in the season. The 26-year-old won after averaging 13.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game across 82 appearances, none of which were starts.
He became only the second NBA player in the last decade to play an entire 82-game season exclusively off the bench. The 26-year-old also became the first player in Spurs history to score more than 1,000 points as a reserve in a single season, finishing with 1,081 bench points and breaking a franchise mark previously held by Manu Ginobili.

Johnson has been a major scorer off the bench throughout the season, finishing the campaign with 51.9% overall efficiency from the field. He was also one of only two NBA reserves this season to post at least 1,000 points and 400 rebounds.
Regardless, Johnson has continued in the same vein in the postseason, recently playing a major role in helping San Antonio win Game 2 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He finished with nine points and 10 rebounds in just 19 minutes on the court, helping his team tie the series 1-1.
