QUAD CITIES, Iowa/Ill (KWQC) – The First Alert Weather Team is tracking strong to severe storms with threats of damaging wind and hail, possible spin-up tornadoes Friday.

LIVE UPDATES: Severe storms and tornado warnings and watches in eastern Iowa and western and northern Illinois.

  • 5:58 p.m. A Severe Thunderstorm WARNING has been issued for Rock Island, Mercer, and Henry Counties in Illinois; Scott, Muscatine, and Clinton Counties in Iowa until 6:45 p.m.
  • 5:55 p.m. Davenport expected to see the storm at about 6 p.m.
  • 5:46 p.m. Tornado WARNING for Henderson, Warren, Mercer counties in Illinois and Henry, Des Moines counties in Iowa until 6:30 p.m.
  • 5:44 p.m. The tornado warning for Jackson County and Dubuque will expire at 6 p.m. The storms are moving out of the area.
  • 5:43 p.m. Tornado WARNING issued for northern Scott County and western Clinton County until 6:30 p.m. The tornadic storm will be near Durant, Bennett and Sunbury around 5:50 p.m. ; Walcott, New Liberty, Plainview, Camp Liberty, and Bennett Park around 5:55 p.m.; Dixon, Maysville, Big Rock, and Sherman Park around 6 p.m.
  • 5:35 p.m. A severe squall line capable of producing both tornadoes and extensive straight line wind damage was located from near St. Donatus to Bellevue to near Springbrook in Jackson County moving east at 55 mph.
  • 5:33 p.m.: 60-80 mph winds in Muscatine County
  • 5:30 p.m. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is seen near Nichols, 9 miles south of West Branch, moving northeast at 50 mph.
  • 5:18 p.m. West Liberty, Muscatine County Fairgrounds in path of tornadic storm. This includes Interstate 80 in Iowa between mile markers 254 and 266.
  • 5:08 p.m. Louisa County, Cedar County, Johnson County, Washington County, Muscatine County.
  • 4:58 p.m. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Camp Courageous, or 13 miles northeast of Anamosa, moving east at 55 mph.
  • 4:54 p.m. Tornado WARNING for north central Jackson County and east central Dubuque County in Iowa until 6 p.m.
  • 4:49 p.m. A dangerous line of storms is moving east at 50 mph near Rubio, about 9 miles west of Washington. This storm is strong enough to cause both tornadoes and very damaging winds
  • 4:36 p.m. A tornado WARNING is issued for northwestern Henry County and Washington County in Iowa until 5:30 p.m.
  • Tornado warning remains for Stephenson County in Illinois until 5 p.m.

A severe storm system moved through eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois Friday afternoon, triggering multiple tornado warnings and confirmed touchdowns.

Communities across Jo Daviess, Stephenson, and Carroll counties in Illinois, along with Jackson and Dubuque counties in Iowa, faced dangerous conditions, including golf-ball-sized hail, 70 mph winds, and flash flooding. Law enforcement and weather spotters confirmed several tornadoes near Apple River Canyon State Park, Lena, and McConnell as the system tracked eastward.

The storm caused significant power outages across the Illinois Quad Cities and Jackson County, Iowa. Throughout the afternoon, the National Weather Service maintained tornado and flood warnings, urging residents to seek immediate shelter. Utility crews remain on standby to address the damage, while officials continue to warn that heavy rain may obscure ongoing tornado threats..

  • 3:27 p.m. Tornado WARNING for eastern Jo Daviess County, northeastern Carroll County, northwestern Stephenson County in Illinois until 4:15 p.m. Take shelter now.
  • 3:18 p.m. a confirmed tornado was near Woodbine, or 17 miles north of Mount Carroll, moving east at 25 mph.
  • 3:17 p.m.: NWS said law enforcement confirmed a tornado at Apple River Canyon State Park, between Stockton and Elizabeth in Jo Daviess County.
  • National Weather Service warns heavy rainfall could hide tornadoes.
  • 3:12 p.m.: Flash flood warning for Jackson and Dubuque counties in Iowa and Jo Daviess County in Illinois.
  • 3:11: Dangerous storm will be near Jo Daviess County Fairgrounds around 3:10 p.m.
  • 3:09 p.m. Dangerous storm will be near Jo Daviess County Fairgrounds around 3:10 p.m.
  • 3:04 p.m. Tornado WARNING until 3:30 p.m. for Jo Daviess and western Stephenson counties.
  • Warnings continue for golf-ball sized hail, lightning and heavy rain.
  • 3:01 p.m. a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Meskwaki Casino, or near Toledo, moving east at 45 mph.
  • 3 p.m.: 580 with power in Jackson County, two without power in Clinton County.
  • 3 p.m.: Circulation seen near Elizabeth, Illinois.
  • 2:57 p.m.: a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Schapville, or 11 miles east of Galena, with a history of producing a tornado.
  • 2:53 p.m.: a severe thunderstorm seen 9 miles east of Galena, moving east at 25 mph. Another storm capable of producing a tornado was located northwest of Hanover also moving east.
  • 2:47 p.m.: 1,050 customers without power in Clinton County and 273 in Jackson County in Iowa.
  • 2:34 p.m.: Midamerican Energy said it has utility trucks ready for emergencies because of threats of isolated tornadoes, winds up to 70 mph and frequent lightning.
  • 2:25 p.m.: About 1,121 customers were without power in the Illinois Quad Cities: 365 in Cordova, 165 in Port Byron and 590 in Rock Island County.
  • 2:23 p.m.: Flash flood warnings issued for Jackson and Dubuque counties until 2:30 p.m. Tornado WATCH remains in effect until 8 p.m. for northwestern Illinois.
  • 2:17 p.m.: A severe thunderstorm is 8 miles southwest of Galena, moving east at 25 mph.
  • 2:11 p.m.: Tornado WARNING issued for northwestern Jo Daviess County in Illinois, and north central Jackson County, east central Dubuque County in Iowa, until 3:15 p.m.
  • 2:05 p.m.: A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Zwingle, 10 miles south of Dubuque, moving east at 25 mph.
  • 1:56 p.m.: A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 11 miles south of Dubuque.
  • 1:39 p.m.: Tornado WARNING for northwestern Jackson County southeastern Dubuque County.
  • 1:17 p.m. A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 2 p.m. for southwestern Jackson, northern Cedar, and northwestern Clinton counties. Radar indicates 60 mph winds and possibilities of large hail. Tornado WATCH remains in effect until 8 p.m.
  • 1:15 p.m.: A severe thunder storm warning is in effect until 2:15 p.m. for northwestern Jo Daviess County in Illinois and northwestern Jackson, Dubuque counties in Iowa.
