Playing styles and prediction
After a 20 year career at the highest level, Wawrinka will be retiring from tennis after a sensational season. It has been an incredible career for Wawrinka and he will be hoping he can end it in sensational style with his run to the third round of the Australian Open showing that he still has good tennis left in him. The question is does Wawrinka have the physicality and consistency to maintain this level on the clay?
Norrie will aim to extend the rallies and use variety to force unforced errors from Wawrinka’s game. Meanwhile, Wawrinka will aim to be aggressive on first serve and will use the backhand to implement his first strike tennis. This will be a big test for Norrie who is yet to beat Wawrinka in his career. However, the Brit’s consistency and physicality may prove too much for Wawrinka although it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if Wawrinka rolled back the years in Barcelona.
Prediction: Norrie in three sets.
