The end is near for Lena Waithe‘s The Chi. It will return for its eighth and final season on Friday, May 22, exclusively on Paramount+, the streamer announced Thursday. The 10-episode final season will roll out weekly every Friday. You can watch a melancholy teaser of what’s to come above.

“Life comes at you fast whether you’re ready for it or not,” a voiceover states in the clip. “Everything has to come to an end.”

The Chi revolves around a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.

Per the official final season logline: As The Chi enters its eighth and final season and its coldest winter ever, life or death choices must be made. The question becomes, who is willing to make them? Legacy, conflict, joy, and pain. It all collides in the biggest, most emotionally riveting way ever seen this season on The Chi.
