The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall for FitRx dumbbells due to dislodging weights, affecting 50,000 units.
WASHINGTON — At least six people reported being hurt, including breaking their toes, getting bruises and being cut, while using FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select 5-52.5lbs Adjustable Dumbbells, according to a recall.
The recall, announced by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission on April 23, said model 8361 is impacted because weights can dislodge during use. This poses a risk of serious injury due to impact hazard, the recall said.
The product has various serial numbers: KK23288361 through KK23388361 and KK207608361 through KK21347836, and impacts 50,000 units.
The dumbbells are black with red accents and can be adjusted to be between 5 lbs and 52.5 lbs. The weights include handles, weight plates and a storage tray. The weight can be adjusted by turning the handle on the dumbbell while it’s on the storage tray.
Model and serial numbers are located on the side of the unit’s storage tray along with “FitRx.”
The products were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online from January 2024 through November 2024 for about $100.
Customers can get a free replacement by writing “recalled” in permanent marker across the dumbbell tray, registering for the recall, then disposing of the recalled product. Find more information here.
FitRx urges customers to stop using the product.
