A 2010 comedy, featuring Dwayne Johnson and Eva Mendes, will land on Hulu’s streaming platform in a few days. Despite its decent commercial run, the film is often regarded as a highly underrated comedy.

The Other Guys starts streaming on Hulu in May

The Other Guys will begin streaming on Hulu from Friday, May 1, 2026, per the streamer’s schedule.

The story follows two mismatched desk-bound NYPD detectives, Terry Hoitz and Allen Gamble, who are often made fun of by their peers, even their idols. However, their mundane lives take a dramatic turn when their seemingly minor case about a permit violation escalates into a big operation involving a multi-billionaire.

The cast includes Eva Mendes as Dr. Sheila Gamble, Dwayne Johnson as Christopher, Will Ferrell as Gamble, Mark Wahlberg as Terry, Samuel L. Jackson as Highsmith, Michael Keaton as Gene, Ray Stevenson as Roger, and Rob Riggle, among others.

Adam McKay (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Don’t Look Up, and Vice) directed The Other Guys and also co-wrote it alongside Chris Henchy. Interestingly, the Oscar-winning director came up with the idea for the film after meeting Wahlberg during a dinner. After noticing the actor’s natural chemistry with Ferrell, McKay came up with a rough concept involving the two stars. He later pitched it to producer Kevin Messick, who encouraged him to turn the concept into a feature film (via Cinema Blend).

Sony Pictures Releasing took care of the film’s distribution, releasing it in August 2010. Right off the bat, it received a favorable reception. While the critics gave it a 78% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the users handed it a 60% average score. On Metacritic, it has a weighted average critic score of 64 and a user score of 6.9. Meanwhile, The Other Guys experienced a decent box office run, earning roughly $170.4 million globally. It had a reported $100 million budget.

Seemingly happy with how the film fared, McKay later worked with the leading stars, producing Daddy’s Home (2015) and Daddy’s Home 2 (2017).
