Prime Video’s latest big YA bet, Boys of Tommen, has set cast.
The romantic drama from The Summer I Turned Pretty studio wiip has cast Nancy Surridge in the lead role of Shannon Lynch, the shy and mysterious new girl at Tommen College. Conor Sánchez will bring Johnny Kavanagh, the golden boy of Tommen, to life, with James O’Donoghue as the troubled but loyal Joey Lynch, and Sophie McGibbon as the fiercely confident Aoife Molloy.
The show follows the forbidden love story of Johnny Kavanagh, the star rugby player on the verge of a pro career, and Shannon Lynch, the talented but painfully shy new girl at the prestigious private school of Tommen College in Ballylaggin, Ireland. Both teenagers are hiding secrets: Johnny, a potentially career-ending injury, and Shannon, a troubled and violent homelife. Through their secret and highly charged connection, the two teens from opposite worlds battle against the odds and find a way to save each other.
Boys of Tommen is the latest in a long line of Prime Video YA shows and is based on the hit book series by Chloe Walsh. It is being adapted by Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’s Poppy Cogan and comes from director Brendan Canty. Ingrid Goodwin is series producer.
Cogan said: “These characters have lived in the hearts and minds of millions of readers, and the response to them has been overwhelming, so finding the right cast was incredibly important. Chloe has created such a rich, emotionally vivid world in these books, and as the writer adapting this story for screen it’s been a privilege to be entrusted with bringing that world to life.”
The series, which was greenlit earlier this year, is produced by global independent studio wiip in association with Amazon MGM Studios, with Metropolitan providing local production services. Series one has been adapted by Cogan (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder) and will be based on the first two novels in Walsh’s bestselling series, Binding 13 and Keeping 13. Cogan also serves as EP alongside author of the Walsh, wiip’s Paul Lee, Hope Hartman and Sean Flanagan, Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, James Seidman and Annika Patten and Drama Republic’s Greg Brenman and Deena Butt. Carla Stronge serves as casting director.
