City of Lincoln outlines safety protocols, closures for marathon May 2 and May 3

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The city of Lincoln outlined traffic safety protocols and street closures scheduled May 2 and May 3, for the Lincoln Mayor’s Run, Marathon, and Half Marathon.

About 2,000 elementary age students will run in the Mayor’s Run and more than 7,000 runners will participate in either the Marathon or Half Marathon.

The Mayor’s Run will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 2, on the south side of the state Capitol.

The Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon will begin at 6:55 a.m. Sunday, May 3, at 14th and Vine streets and end at Stadium Drive and T Street. Spectators are encouraged to attend the events and support the runners along the route and at the start and finish lines. The route and additional information are available at lincolnmarathon.org.

The Lincoln Police Department will control intersections along the race route and community members are advised to prepare for traffic delays.

LPD will post live @Lincoln_Police via X during the marathon and half marathon on Sunday as intersections reopen. The community is encouraged to plan ahead when traveling during the event.

  • K Street between South 14th and South 16th streets
  • South 16th Street between K and H streets
  • H Street between South 14th and South 16th streets
  • South 14th Street between H and K streets
  • Goodhue Boulevard between H and G streets
  • Lincoln Mall between South 13th and South 14th streets

Two-day closure from 8 a.m. Saturday May 2, to 11 a.m. Sunday, May 3, includes:

  • 14th Street between Vine and W streets

Two-day closure from 8 a.m. Saturday May 2, to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 3, includes:

  • Stadium Drive between Salt Creek Roadway and T Street

Sunday, May 3, closures from midnight to 10 a.m. include:

  • 14th Street between Vine Street and Salt Creek Roadway

Sunday, May 3, closures from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. include:

  • 16th Street between R and South streets
  • 19th Street between R and Vine streets
  • Vine Street between 14th Street and Antelope Valley Parkway
  • R Street between 16th and 19th streets

Sunday, May 3, closures from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. include:

  • South Street between 15th and 27th streets – eastbound full closure
  • Sheridan Boulevard between 44th and South streets – eastbound full closure
  • Calvert Street between Sheridan Boulevard and 48th Street – eastbound lane closures
  • 16th Street between Vine and X streets – full closure
  • 20th Street between Nebraska Parkway and Van Dorn Street – full closure
  • 48th Street between Pioneers Boulevard and Calvert Street – full closure
  • Harrison Street between 10th and 17th streets – full closure
  • Pioneers Boulevard between 33rd Street and Nebraska Parkway – full closure
  • 48th Street between Nebraska Pkwy and Pioneers Blvd – full closure

Sunday, May 3, closures from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. include:

  • 10th Street between Van Dorn and K streets – full closure
  • 10th Street between K and T streets – northbound lane closures

Sunday, May 3, closures from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. include:

  • Capitol Parkway between 33rd and K streets – eastbound lane closure
  • Normal Boulevard between 33rd and 62nd streets – eastbound lane closure
  • Normal Boulevard between 62nd Street and Holmes North Shore Drive – eastbound full closure
  • Salt Creek Roadway between 10th and 14th streets – eastbound lane closure
  • J Street between 25th Street and Capitol Parkway – full closure

Sunday, May 3, closures from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. include:

  • 27th Street between Nebraska Parkway and Woods Drive
  • 33rd Street between Nebraska Parkway and Pioneers Boulevard
  • 40th Street between Nebraska Parkway and Pioneers Boulevard

Sunday, May 3, closures from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. include:

  • Harrison Street between 17th and 20th streets

There will be limited access to Holmes Lake Park between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.
