It’s a chilly and damp night in Denver, Colorado—which also happens to be the first Bark at the Park night—as the Texas Rangers arrive for a visit to kick off a three game series. The Rangers just lost two of their last three in Houston and just lost franchise star Corey Seager to the injured list. Meanwhile the Colorado Rockies are scuffling in the month of May with a 4-11 record and are coming off a series loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Starting for the Rockies is reliable lefty José Quintana, looking for his fifth straight start of giving up two or fewer earned runs. The Rockies could definitely use a game where starting pitching keeps them in reach after Kyle Freeland and Michael Lorenzen got hit hard in the Diamondbacks series.

His last time out, Quintana made it through just four innings. He gave up three runs (two earned) with three walks and two strikeouts against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Quintana has been solid at Coors Field with a 3.78 ERA in 16.2 innings, though the weather could cause some challenges tonight.

Making the start for the Rangers is the left-handed MacKenzie Gore, whom they acquired this off-season from the Washington Nationals. Gore enters tonight’s game with a 4.50 ERA over nine starts with 53 strikeouts. His last time out was an eight inning gem against Arizona where he gave up just one run on three hits and tallied five strikeouts.

Gore has historically struggled against the Rockies. In four career starts and 18.1 innings he has a 8.84 ERA and has given up five home runs. His primary pitch is a mid-90s four-seam fastball and he utilizes a curveball-changeup combo to get whiffs and strike out batters. He also throws a slider, a cutter, and a sinker.
