The Detroit Tigers are calling up one of their top prospects.
The Tigers on Friday called up infielder Hao-Yu Lee from Triple-A Toledo to replace infielder Zach McKinstry, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with left hip/abdominal inflammation. The move is retroactive to April 16.
McKinstry exited Wednesday night’s game against the Royals ahead of the eighth inning of a 2-1 victory after getting tangled up a couple of times with the Royals’ Jac Caglianone.
Lee, 23, meanwhile, is in line to make his major-league debut. He was acquired by the Tigers in an August 2023 trade that sent starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen to the Philadelphia Phillies.
The righthand-hitting Lee spent all of 2025 in Toledo, where he hit .243 with a .748 OPS, with 14 home runs and 61 RBIs. He also tallied 22 stolen bases. He’s off to a slow start for the Mud Hens this season, hitting .154 in six games (4 for 26) with a home run and four RBIs.
His is No. 6 among the Tigers’ top 30 prospects, according to MLB Pipeline.
