Sandra Bullock is officially on social media, and she’s doing it her way.

On Thursday, April 16, the actress, 61, appeared at CNBC’s Changemakers 2026 event in New York City.

During the discussion with CNBC’s Julia Boorstin and Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-CEO and co-chair Pamela Abdy, Bullock reflected on her decision to finally join Instagram as she prepares for the release of Practical Magic 2.

The Oscar winner acknowledged she had been reluctant to join the platform until now. “It didn’t feel like it would ever be my thing,” she said. “I do have two kids, and I was like, I need to figure this out. So I’d been on social media, but quietly, just to learn and shop.”

After Abdy approached the star about officially joining to help support the upcoming sequel, Bullock said she began to reconsider.

“I’m not spontaneous. I need a plan,” Bullock said. “I need to think about it. How does that affect what I can contribute? How badly can I f— it up? Which, that will come, and I’m just going to lean into that.”

Bullock said she went to the studio and said, “OK, talk to me, tell me what you see, because if I need to be able to make myself look like an idiot and have fun, I will not be doing selfies or makeup tutorials.”

“I’m excited to see how I can contribute,” she added, before joking: “And if it works after the film is over, maybe I will do a makeup line.”

Bullock’s Thursday appearance comes amid her return to acting ahead of the highly anticipated Practical Magic sequel.

Earlier this week, she and costar Nicole Kidman revealed new details about the film’s plot while introducing a new teaser at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

“Why do we come here, Nicole?” Bullock asked at the April 14 event, to which Kidman replied, “We come to this place for magic,” a reference to Kidman’s iconic AMC Theaters ad.

“The witches are back!” Kidman said to applause, as Bullock joked, “Step on my line, that’s okay.”

“I’m sure you’ve heard of the Owens family,” Bullock’s character, the responsible older sister Sally Owens, says in the teaser. “The ones from Massachusetts. The ones their neighbors whisper are witches.”

That same day, the Oscar winner made her Instagram debut and quickly garnered more than 4 million followers after sharing only one post — a clip of her pointing to a blender and it immediately turning on, as if by magic.

She captioned the video: “Midnight somewhere…”

Bullock followed up the post with a BTS video of her and Practical Magic 2 costar Nicole Kidman‘s CinemaCon appearance.

“Owens sisters ❤️,” she captioned the clip.

Practical Magic 2 is scheduled for a theatrical release on Sept. 18, 2026.
