The Ohio State football spring game is here.

After five weeks of practice, the Buckeyes will play at Ohio Stadium in front of fans in a scrimmage on April 18. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said April 13 the scrimmage will feature the offense against the defense rather than divide the roster into separate teams, a similar format to last year’s game.

In 2025, the Buckeyes’ spring game featured the offense as the Scarlet team and the defense as the Gray team. Using a special scoring format, Scarlet handled Gray in a 50-31 victory. The offense has won the spring game three of the past four years.

The opening series between the first-string offense and first-string defense featured “thud” tackling, in which defenders did not bring ball carriers to the ground. Day revealed that “a drive or two” will feature thud tackling in this year’s spring game, with full tackling the rest of the game − except the quarterbacks, Day added.
