Seamus Power fell back to two under for the tournament, eight off the lead, after a bogey-ridden inward nine on Friday at the Myrtle Beach Classic in South Carolina.
The Waterford golfer recorded an impressive opening round of 68 to sit inside the top 20 overnight. Starting on the 10th, he reached the turn in four under after a birdie on the 16th.
However, four bogeys in seven holes in his homeward stretch set him back, with just one birdie at the par-five fourth hole amid this run. He did regain some lost ground with a birdie at the short ninth to card a round of 72.
England’s Aaron Rai holds the lead at the midway point on 10 under par after a second-round 67.
Rai, whose sole PGA Tour win came at the 2024 Wyndham Championship, carded six birdies on Friday, with two dropped shots.
He leads by one stroke from the 45-year old veteran Brandt Snedeker and Mark Hubbard. Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Kevin Roy share fourth spot on eight under.
The tournament’s highest profile entrant Brooks Koepka is at four under par after a one under round of 70.
