After injecting youth to the roster via the draft this past weekend, the Minnesota Vikings are now retaining a young player for another year.

On Monday, the team formally exercised the fifth-year option on wide receiver Jordan Addison’s contract. He will now remain under team control through the 2027 season.

The 24-year-old former first-round pick has pretty consistently proven his value on the field, but a series of off-the-field incidents have raised questions about his future in Minnesota.

He was cited for driving 140 mph on Interstate 94 in 2023 and pleaded guilty to a DUI charge in 2024. That second charge led to a suspension for the first three games of this past season. Just two weeks after the end of Minnesota’s 2025 season, Addison was arrested in Florida for trespassing but that case was later dismissed.

On the field, Addison caught 70 passes for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie, but his production has dipped each of the past two seasons. He finished last season with 42 catches for 610 yards and just three scores. Over his three NFL seasons, Addison has tallied 175 receptions for 2,396 yards and 22 touchdowns in 46 games.

He’ll play the 2026 season on the fourth year of his rookie deal, with a $2.6 million base salary. However, his 2027 salary is projected to be roughly $18 million and is fully guaranteed, per Spotrac.

The Vikings had until May 1 to officially decide on his fifth-year option.

Next up for Minnesota’s offseason are organized team activities (OTAs), which will start at the end of May.
