Vitor Pereira talked about the upcoming showdown with Sunderland for Nottingham Forest.
The Tricky Trees thrashed Burnley 4-1 in the second half of their clash at the City Ground last weekend, overturning a half time deficit thanks to a hat-trick from Morgan Gibbs-White.
The Portuguese boss knows that a positive result on Friday evening at the Stadium of Light lifts the team at least six points clear of 18th placed Tottenham heading into the rest of the action on this Premier League matchday, and he has called for consistency from the camp in this performance.
“I believe we have to keep the same mentality and same level still. We have to be competitive until the last minute of the last game. This is what I’m trying to put into the minds of my players. [We need to] keep building consistency, competing in every game and fighting to pick up points everywhere.
“The results we are getting means we are creating something consistent. We are competing in every game for results. This is the spirit I want to see from my team until the last game. I cannot say with three or six more points it is done. I believe this season will be special in terms of points needed to avoid relegation. We need to get points, try to get points tomorrow, try to get points in the next game after that. This is the only way to get the conditions to celebrate and to feel proud of ourselves.
“If I accept the (Forest) job, I believe in the team, the players, the club and the supporters and in our work. I’m positive. I believe we have the talent, character, energy and supporters to be in the Premier League next season. I believe we have to keep the mentality and the level; we have to be competitive until the last minute of the last game. This is what I’m trying to put in the mind of my team.
“[Sunderland] are having a very good season. I’ve reminded my players that they are 10 points above us, which means they are playing with consistency. I respect them a lot. They have a good team, they are strong competitors and they have a good manager.”
