Last week, the Minnesota Vikings hosted former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings for a free agent visit that lasted a couple of days and appeared to be a good fit for both parties involved. Jennings left Minnesota without a deal, and everything has been fairly quiet since then. There may be a reason for that, and if the reason is what’s being reported, you can probably expect things to remain quiet, at least on the Vikings’ side of things.

Albert Breer or Sports Illustrated is reporting that Jennings is seeking “WR2” money to sign with a team in free agency. Obviously, we can’t say whether or not that’s the case, but if it is, it may explain why he’s gone unsigned to this point in the free agency process.

Free agency started right around two months ago, and no NFL team has been compelled to sign Jennings to a deal that would give him “WR2” money. At this point, there aren’t too many teams that still have that sort of money just laying around, I don’t think.

Minnesota certainly isn’t one of those teams, given that Justin Jefferson is making “top 5 wide receiver in the NFL money” and the team just picked up the fifth-year option on Jordan Addison’s contract, a move that could be a precursor to a contract extension that would lock him in as Minnesota’s WR2 going forward.

My guess is that the closer we get to the start of training camp, the more Jennings’ price tag is going to go down. There’s still a chance that Jauan Jennings could become a Minnesota Viking at some point this offseason, but as long as his price tag stays elevated, I certainly wouldn’t expect it to happen any time soon.
