Darin Brooks will celebrate his birthday in a very special way this year — by returning to The Bold and the Beautiful as Wyatt Spencer on Wednesday, May 27.
“I saw the script, and I was like, ‘OK, shooting this day … air date May 27,’ and was like, ‘Wait, that’s really cool,’” Brooks begins. “I’m a firm believer in signs, and the universe presents you things, and everything happens for a reason, and I just took that as one of those things of like, ‘Alright, this is meant to be, and let’s have some fun.’ I got super excited, and I am super excited, to jump back into the Wyatt character.”
Brooks joined the soap in June 2013 and last appeared in January 2024. When TV Insider caught up with him in February, Brooks indicated that he was in preliminary talks with B&B‘s executive producer and head writer, Brad Bell, about going back and had visited the soap’s new studio space.
“We had just been chatting,” Brooks explains. “Brad got lunch for everybody, and he was like, ‘Come down for a Pink’s hot dog and see the stages.’ And I went down, and I saw everything, and it was great, and everybody was like, ‘Oh, my God, are you coming back?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, I don’t know yet. We still got to talk about it.’ And we went up to Brad’s office, and he shut the door, and he was like, ‘So you want to come back? … You’re obviously loved here, and we would love to have some comedy on the show again.’ We had a couple more discussions, and then it took shape from there.”
Revisiting the soap after time away, during which he starred in the movie The Roaring Game, gave Brooks a new perspective. “I get to come back with some fresh eyes,” he notes. “The studio is bigger, so there are more setups, and it’s awesome. It’s got a new feel, it’s got a new vibe, but just jumping back into it was like riding a bike again. I’ve been doing it for so long that it’s just second nature.”
He says he was eager to spend time with his B&B family again. “Honestly, I couldn’t wait to reconnect with, Don [Diamont, Bill Spencer] and Scott [Clifton, Liam Spencer], and meet Crew [Morrow, Will Spencer, Wyatt’s half-brother] and work with Crew and Heather [Tom, Katie Logan] and everybody,” Brooks shares. “When they had the party for the [B&B] app launch [In March], it was great reconnecting with Ash Brewer [Ivy Forrester, who is on maternity leave], and I’m so happy for her. We were reminiscing about Ivy and Wyatt, and that could be interesting. We shall see.”
Working with Diamont and Clifton was especially fun after so much time apart. “Oh, it’s jumping back into the Three Stooges,” he muses. “We’re a pain in the ass to work with, because we just joke the whole time and crack up the set, and the directors are like, ‘Okay, just let them have a couple seconds and get it out.’ And then it’s, ‘Let’s go, come on, we got to shoot,’ and we’re like, ‘Okay, sorry, sorry, sorry! It’s just been so long.’ But we’ll just crack each other up and just make jokes. I think that levity on set was needed, and I think people appreciate that, too. A lot of crew members laugh, and they always come up and say, ‘We’re glad we got the band back together.’”
The reason for Wyatt’s return to Los Angeles will be revealed pretty quickly. “Well, let’s just say he’s been going through a lot,” teases Brooks. “He was summoned by his father for a reason that we’ll find out on Wednesday, and he brings someone with him, which I think we all know who that person is going to be, Denise [Richards, who plays Shauna Fulton], and I’m excited to work with her as well. She’s such a sweetheart, I love her to death. I’ve known her for a long time, since the BMS [Blue Mountain State, in which they both appeared] days, so I love her. But he’s back for a specific reason, for his dad and for Logan, and we’ll find out what his big ask is. We’ll see how it all unfolds, who it messes with, who it doesn’t, who gets upset about it, who doesn’t, and what relationships it gets to mess up.”

As for Flo, Wyatt’s fiancée, the audience will have to wait a bit longer to learn what happened between them. “Not right away, but you will,” Brooks promises.
Now that he’s back in the swing of things, Brooks is looking forward to his second chapter at B&B and is excited to execute the stories planned for Wyatt. “I’m always curious to see what Brad and the whole writing team comes up with,” he says. “I’m excited to see where they want Wyatt to go and what’s going to happen to him. What’s going on in his current love life? What is going to happen to his current love life, and if he wants a love life or not? I don’t know. We’ll see where he is in his mindset.”
Brooks admits he was touched by the enthusiastic fan response to his return. “I thank everybody for being so supportive and loving the character, and saying such supportive things,” he shares. “I love the fans, and none of us actors would be anywhere without our fans in any show, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you all.”
And with a nod to his memorable 2013 debut, he quips, “I can’t wait to see you all, and I hope you all can’t wait to see me in all my glory. As long as there’s not another naked solar shower in the woods, I think we’ll be fine.”
